After outlasting the Miami Heat in the 7-8 play-in game, the Philadelphia 76ers (7) are facing the New York Knicks (2) in the first round of the 2024 NBA Playoffs. The red-hot Knicks (50-32), after taking about a week off, will look to continue their success against the 76ers this year. New York won the regular-season series 3-1 with center Joel Embiid sidelined during three of those matchups (with Embiid in their lineup this year, the Sixers went 31-8). The Knicks narrowly captured second place in the conference (behind the top-ranked Boston Celtics), over Milwaukee (49 wins), Cleveland (48) and three other teams that finished with 47 wins (including the 76ers).
This will mark the 10th postseason series between the franchises since their first in 1989.
